Fundamentals of Digital Imaging
Overview
Almost every desktop environment we have seen has a special application for creating
small icons, usually a very limited drawing application. In this lab activity, students will
learn how GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) can help create icons and logos for your desktop.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this activity, the student will know how to:
- Know what bitmap images are
- Understand transparency and opacity
- now how to blend different colors smoothly
- Know how to use layers for design
- Learn how to use GIMP

- Download and watch the video
here
- Start GIMP
- Do exactly what the video does to create a logo (80 points)
- When you are done, save your design in XCF format so that your design can be fully kept (10 points)
- Also save your design in PNG format and upload it to your D2L(10 points)
- Wait for your instructor to grade your work
