Module - Fundamentals of Digital Video

Overview

In this activity, students will learn how to record video, mix video, add effects and add title to video using Lightworks. Also students will learn how to add voice over to an existing video. Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this activity, the student will know how to:

  1. Know how to download video from Youtube
  2. Know how to add/edit voice over to a video clip
  3. Know how to add effects/title/credits to digital video
  4. Learn how to save digital video in different formats
  5. Learn how to use Lightworks

Detailed Description

  1. Download the video from here
  2. Record a video clip about 15 seconds long using your phone or web camera of yourself talking (10 points)
  3. Import the video you downloaded and the one you recorded to Lightworks
  4. Now you should see 2 video clips in your Lightworks window.
  5. Trim the video you recorded to 10 seconds (5 points)
  6. Trim the downloaded video to 20 seconds (5 points)
  7. Split the downloaded video to two clips, each with 10 seconds (5 points)
  8. Move the video you recorded in between the downloaded video clips such that it starts at the 10 second mark of the downloaded video (5 points)
  9. Now in your project your video should have three pieces, each being 10 seconds
  10. Add a title to the beginning of your move (5 points)
  11. Add at least 2 transition effects to the 3 pieces of the video (5 points)
  12. Add credits to the end of your video (5 points)
  13. Now record a new audio track using Audacity. When you record, try to say the same thing as the downloaded video (5 points)
  14. Import the audio file you recorded to Lightworks and edit your voice-over such that
    1. ) in the 1st 10 seconds of the video, we only hear your voice (10 points),
    2. ) in the 2nd 10 seconds we only hear the voice that is copied from the 1st 10 seconds of the original downloaded video (10 points)
    3. ) in the 3rd 10 seconds, we hear both your voice and the voice of the downloaded video (10 points)
  15. Add closed caption to what the video says for the three video clips (10 points)
  16. Export your video as a movie file and save it to desktop. (5 points)
  17. Upload your resulting movie file and audio file to D2L.(5 points)
