Part I (30 points)
Rip a song from a CD that you like and would like to make a commentary about.
- Pick a track of music from a CD
- Use Window Media Player to Rip the music as WAV format. How to rip the music with windows OS
- If you are using Mac, on the desktop, you should see an icon
after inserting your CD, open the CD, drag and drop the sound to the
desktop. It's in AIFF format with Mac.
- Start Audacity, open your ripped song and make sure the sampling rate is 44,100 and bit depth is 32 bits.
- Edit the track to be 75 seconds in length and use Audacity to do the following.
- make the music fade in (over 10 seconds) at the beginning and fade out (over 10 seconds) at the end ( -5 points if you don't have).
- During the first 20 seconds the background music should come from the left( -5 points if you don't have).
- During the last 20 seconds the background music should come from the right( -5 points if you don't have).
- For the remaining 35 seconds the background music should come from the center( -5 points if you don't have).
- Using Audacity, add a track to record your voice.
- Make certain that your voice-over can be clearly heard over the
music by adjusting the gain value of the music to -6 and adjusting the
gain value of your voice to +6 ( -5 points if it is not the case).
Requirements
- When record your voice-over , you must include your name in the recording ( -5 points if you don't have).
- The content of your voice-over should be appropriate (-100 points if it is inapporiate).
- Save the Project (it should have .aup as file extension). You
could save the project once you get started. The earlier the better. No
need to wait till you complete the above steps.
- Export your sound file as a .ogg file (44,100Hz, 32 bits),
- Reminder: any time saving anything for this class, your userID should be part of the file name( -5 points if you don't have).

Part II: Exporting and Converting (30 points)
- Based on the file you obtained from Part I (with sampling rate
44,100Hz), using Audacity to generate the sound file in different file
formats including:
- .Wav format (32 bits, 16 bits and 8 bits)
- .aiff format(32 bits, 16 bits and 8 bits)
- .MP3 format (32 bits)
-
When finished, you need to post these files on your wiki site as follows.

Part III: Experience Different Specs (30 points)
All the above files were created using standard CD quality sampling
rate: 44,100 samples per second and a bit depth of 32 bits. Now set the
project sampling rate to 8000Hz, bit depth to 16 bits, repeat the work
and generate three new files and post them using the following template.
When finished, you need to post them on your wiki site.
